A statewide interfaith group is calling on Wisconsin to fund alternatives to incarceration and restore its early release program as ways to cut the state’s prison population in half by 2015.
Local representatives of the 11 x 15 campaign kicked off their efforts Tuesday at a news conference at the Marathon County Courthouse, and they provided some specifics on the policies they hope will help to bring about the change.
The campaign is led by a statewide coalition group called WISDOM. Its goal is to cut the state prison population from 2010’s average daily population of 22,008 to 11,000 by 2015.
