SAN FRANCISCO (KRON/CNN) – Dozens of cases have been thrown out of court in San Francisco thanks to a series of videos that officials said show police misconduct.

The surveillance video from April of last year showed an undercover officer, wearing dark clothing and a hat, trying to buy drugs from a person wearing a white shirt and talking on the phone.

But the public defender said what you see in this video is not what police said happened in their reports.

“These are complete fabrications, and completely untrue,” said Jeff Adachi, San Francisco Public Defender.

The police reported stated the suspect raised his right hand to his mouth and spit out white rock wrapped in plastic, which police said was suspected base rock cocaine, into his palm and handed it to another suspect.

“These are not things that happened at any time during this transaction,” Adachi said.

Adachi said the video shows the suspect never takes the cell phone out of his right hand and never takes his left hand out of his pocket, so the police report is completely false.

“This opens up a whole new Pandora’s box because we are talking about buy bust operations, on the street, involving narcotics officers whose reports are being, clearly, and unequivocally, being falsified,” he said.

The San Francisco Police Department issued a statement saying it will not stand for dishonesty in its ranks.

It’s investigating the allegations and said it will discipline and officers found guilty.
