Causes of IL Prison Overcrowding

Posted: December 18, 2010 by pillowfiends in IDOC, IL in Fiscal Ruins

This is a copy of Dec 16, 2010, Craigslist posting regarding the Winnebago County SA’s office. The poster is obviously someone who works in the office. He or she is  expressing their disgust over management’s apparent attitude that every defendant is a criminal regardless of the facts of the case. It is this continuing emphasis on high conviction rates and longer prison sentences, even for lesser offenses, which causes overcrowding in IL state prisons.

They are out of control. Mr. Bruscato has dozens of lawyers in criminal courtrooms but gives them virtually no control over their cases. He and his queen sit upon the throne and make proclaimations. They do not know the nuts and bolts of the cases. Not every case fits into a cookie cutter fix. Do you understand that you are affecting actual people? The most ridiculous thing is the edict from above that all traffic tickets cannot be amended without his highnesses approval. Remember Joe, these are your voters and you are burning them. Every person who has a case pending is not a criminal. Each of the actual criminals has friends and family. Get a clue.

  1. Vicki W. says:

That’s right. It seems they are throwing everyone that comes through the court system into prison. My son was put in for lies and fabricated evidence that was not true. The conviction should have been given a fine and counseling or community service. Instead he got 3 years with 1 1/2 served in prison. It is ridiculous. He says there are so many in there for traffic violations and DUI’s. They need to set some new guidelines for the judges and not allow them to send everyone to jail.
