Well, if you are expecting quick action now regarding MGT, you are going to be disappointed. We don’t even know who our Governor is yet.
Early indications are (and perhaps we will know better by Friday) that Quinn has won, but if so, only by the slimmest of margins.
This means that even if Quinn holds on to the Governor’s chair, he will have to appease a lot of people in IL who voted for him only as the lesser of two evils. So don’t be looking for him to do anything controversial anytime soon. Even if he is announced the winner of the election, his win is certain to be challenged in court by Bill Brady. That process can extend over 30 days. Quinn will not be in the position to act on reinstatement of MGT until all electoral matters are finally decided. Until then, anything he attempts to do will be attacked by opponents.
So, nothing immediate is expected to happen at IDOC. Reinstatement of MGT is still probably months away, and any additional Early Release is not even on the political horizon.
I am so sick and tired of the govenor hiding behind the election when it comes to the MGT. I think there are enough people in prison that deserve the right to be released that it would make a lot of voters and family happy to support the govenor. The holidays are very close and this is going to ruin a lot of families get togethers. I know it will mine. I have 4 grown kids and 3 will be there with our grandchildren. It is ridiculous that 1 man can ruin the lives of so many people.

You are so right Vicki enough is enough. Give us our family members back for rediculous things. They did the time and who in Richard Wanke? This is a bunch of crap. Going back to the books and call the President. What kind of corruption is going on now? Fair is fair they deserve to be released! All they are doing is raising our taxes to keep them in there and why when we can have them working to help their family. How stupid is the government for real.

Vicki,
Quinn has had a few good ideas, and I credit him with the try at early release cause no one else would have tried it. I just blame him for being sloppy and messing up in doing it. I think he is trying for good, but then they get after him and he pulls back.
What I really blame is us for letting ads and lies by politicans work, and that if one guy attacks the other enough on an issue like crime that the voters will believe him and vote the other out. I think most politicians are politicians becuse they can’t do anything else. They are in it for the pay, not to serve us. And every one of them who attacks the other for trying something new just so they can get votes and an office shows that they are just in it for themselves. Everyone should be smart enough to see it and vote them down. If we did this then the ads and money would not work and the good ones could go about and do their jobs.

My holidays are ruined also I just knew that I was going to be picking my husband up this month. I am really counting on Quinn this time I want my husband home, I been working almost 60 hrs a week so I can pay the bills and support him while he’s in prison. He just put a request in for a sentence reduction so whatever comes first either Quinn might start the program back up or the judge grant them to release him early. THIS IS VERY STRESSFUL, especially this time of the year!

My holidays are ruined also. My husbands lawyer told me that he was getting out this month but that was when the program wasn’t placed on hold. What I don’t understand is why he didn’t get this good time credit if he made it to IDOC before it was cancelled but 2 other guys did and his crime wasn’t as bad as theirs. I am so sick of driving to see him just so I can get treated like an inmate. His lawyer said he was gettn out this month but the way things looking I doubt it. This is so stressful for me and our kids especially around the holidays!

I so feel for you but the politicians don’t care about us babe. It’s all about the money to them. Yeah they may have worked their way up there but us little people can take a stand because we are the reason they are getting richer. People make mistakes, do their time and really some for no reason. Send them home NOW. Cause I will be seeing what is possible about our situation girl. This IS illegal in the USA.

Sheila,
Please don’t give the politicians an excuse for their decisions. They know what they are doing. My son was falsely accused and sentenced because of a corrupt sheriff and judge and a lousy lawyer. It was campaign time for them and they used the case to further their position. The sheriff got re-elected. The incident my son was arrested for happened 2 years ago. they waited 18 months to sentence him. In that time he completely changed his life and became a minister, but they would not listen to him. I believe his lawyer was on their payroll to let him lose. I wish I could prove that. If the MGT was still in effect he would be home for the holidays. It is not fair for him or the many other locked up for rediculous things. The overcrowding could be solved if they would release the ones that shouldn’t be in there in the first place and reinstate the MGT for the rest. They deserve the right to earn their early release. I think the govenor learned from the mistake he made last year and needs to be more careful about the way he goes about the release. It can be done. Thank you for your comment. Sorry if I sound mad at you. I am not. I am just frustrated with the system and can see that it can be corrected. I love my son very much and go to see him every week. If he is not home for Thanksgiving my other children are going to have to visit him while they are in from out of town. Please help us get the govenors office to listen to the families andmake the right choice.

Just keep doing what you are doing and soon these unlawfull precerssors will not have a job themselves by the time I am done. Cause we pay them to do their jobs and if it ain’t getting done. Then they will find out this ain’t a joke are there behalf.

VICKI, I SO AGREE WITH YOU! MY HUSBAND SHOULD BE HOME ON THE 22ND BUT ALL BECAUSE OF THIS PROGRAM HE IS NOT SO NOW WE ARE LOOKING @ MAY IF THE GOOD TIME ISN’T RESTORED. THIS IS STRESSFUL FOR ALOT OF PEOPLE AND ALL THESE MONTHS I WAITED FOR THE ELECTION AND STILL I HAVE TO WAIT EVEN LONGER FOR THEM TO MAKE A DECISION. I AM SICK OF THE DRIVING, PUTTING MONEY ON THE PHONE FOR HIM TO CALL, AND SENDING HIM MONEY SO HE CAN EAT GOOD BECAUSE THE STUFF THEY FEED THEM ISN’T ENOUGH. ALL THIS MONEY I COULD SAVE IF HE WAS AT HOME AND MY HUSBAND LOCKED AWAY FOR A CRIME HE DIDN’T COMMIT. THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS SCREWED UP IF YOU ASK ME. GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND YOUR SON AND I HOPE IT WILL BE A CHANGE SOONER THEN WE THINK.

God I hope so Vicki. I will keep praying too. Don’t know if I can keep going like this it’s too much. But I will stand strong. I really hate the politics but now I guess it’s time to make a stand because they are doing some hard core, uncalled for desicions really. So sick of it. Working my butt off and all alone when really it ain’t that serious to keep my husband there any longer. Quinn or whoever Wanke is better sign off.

Cathy,
Richard Wanke is in prison and the ones who run this site are trying to help him. I think he and they put news here about what is happening to inside IDOC so that the everyone will care about it. I come here to check for news so I know what to tell my guy about what is going on. Wankes case is on the left side of the pages, but wanke has nothing to do with Quinn or the politicians.

I CALLED THE GOVERNORS OFFICE TODAY TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANY UPDATED INFO ABOUT REINSTATING THE PROGRAM AND AS USUAL THEY GAVE ME THE SAME LINE AS ALWAYS, “THE PROGRAM HAS BEEN PLACED ON HOLD UNTIL FURTHER REVIEWING” SERIOUSLY HOW MUCH REVIEWING DO YOU HAVE TO DO IF THIS PROGRAM HAVE BEEN GOING ON FOR DECADES! I HOPE QUINN MAKE SOME CHANGES QUICK BECAUSE RIGHT NOW THE ONLY THING HE DOING IS HURTING PEOPLE FAMILIES!

Tabitha,
I talked to my son today and he said things are really getting bad. He said he is seeing more and more fights. I think the stress of not knowing what is happening with the MGT is getting to them. I know they all want to be with their families for the holidays. I have written to the govenors office and know they are not talking. It sounds like he is hiding from the legislators. He says they have to vote on his decisions and doesn’t think they want to see anything on MGT. We need to keep writing comments and letters and phone calls and make sure he knows what it is doing to the families of the inmates and the inmates. Keep talking to friends and family and get them involved. Good luck.

The Early Release section of the Illinois Compiled Statutes guarantees that certain (most) inmates are eligible for 3 or 6 months of MGT. When Quinn suspended MGT he effectively terminated that eligibility, which is contrary to the law. The claim that MGT awards are “discretionary” is a diversion tactic. All inmates who behaved well always got ALL of their MGT, the discretion only applied to inmates who had problems. File a lawsuit.

Nice thinking but from inside the walls the wardens and police officers block them from doing anything. They read any complaints and never send them on. They are ruthless and abusers. They are corrupt. Yes they are and something has to be done legally. But NO ONE listens.

I think we should all file a class action lawsuit against the govenors office. Maybe that will wake him up.

I agree we should vicki. We have all been through enough really. I will sign anything you got. But I also am gonna start looking up the laws on this statute so I can do something myself. I’m tired of what they are doing it’s uncalled for.

I’m so sorry for the injustice that is being suffered by so many as a result of a system that is intended to administer justice. Our judicial system is corrupted by prosecutors, judges and attorneys, who all simply go thru the motions in order to generate a cash flow. Did Governor Quinn do any thing different when he played along with a political controversy of early release that was based upon false and misleading information? It is our own government that is violating our laws and there is nothing we can do about it unless we pay to play.
