Fourteen years in prison for laptop

Thursday afternoon, in Room 467 of the Winnebago County Courthouse. Richard was sentenced to fourteen years in state prison.   His crime: stealing a laptop.

This may seem harsh in some people’s eyes.

Judge McGraw, after hearing information about a previous conviction which occurred in 1991, used extended sentencing provisions to deliver a sentence which is double the maximum usually allowed.

I can guarantee you Greg Clark would’ve gotten you a better result than 14 years.

Explain why he stole the laptop. I haven’t heard that side of the story, but I would like to. If somebody ever stole my laptop, and they got caught, I would want the judge to throw the book at them too.

It’s not 14 years for just a laptop. It’s 14 years for that and his priors. There is a pattern of deceit and criminal activity here dating back over 15 years. This man should not be pitied. I feel it is just that he is being held in account.
