DANVILLE — Prisoners at the Danville Correctional Center have the seasonal flu and H1N1, better known as swine flu.
The prison remains on lockdown a week and a half later since first closing its doors to visitors, according to Sharyn Elmen, chief public information officer for the Illinois Department of Corrections.
She said a few more prisoners have been affected, but some also are getting better. About 30 prisoners have been sick with the flu.
“It’s not more serious,” Elmen said about the H1N1 cases.
It’s the same protocol with all the flu cases, she said about cleaning and sanitizing the facility.
“We’ve got it contained. We’re dealing with it and there is no need for concern,” Elmen said.
She said the prison will remain on lockdown possibly until sometime next week. Officials are taking it day by day.
“We don’t want to infect anybody that comes in from the outside,” Elmen said.
